Chapter 12

Do you see the portent

in the heavens?

Can you hear the woman

as she cries?

They did not say that labor

would be sweet

He is coming after me…

Who will be my defender?

Who shall see the war?

A male child,

a spirit

a king…

Where, oh where, is my place in the wilderness?

Where can I abide?

Oh Mother! Catch me to thy throne!

But if you do, too early…

It is not yet finished.

Oh God, when will it be finished?

You said I would be content, and I am not content

I am in contentment, but you hold me apart

Cast, here, upon the shore

No man to lift me up…

Is this place, this promised land,

really a wilderness?

I do not understand.
