When I told St. Joseph that if he helped me find a new home, I would call it The Flight House, after the Holy Family’s Flight into Egypt, I had no idea what I was signing up for.
Not only did he send me a home home, and not only did I name my new apartment The Flight House (sitting across from St. Joseph creek, on St. Joseph Creek Road), but soon after, I knew what I wanted to do with my time, talent, love of entrepreneurship, and deep passion for creativity... I wanted to start a business to support Catholic creators.
Thus, lo and behold, The Flight House was born.
This journey has taken me to unexpected places. More and more, St. Joseph has been teaching me how to step out on my own to answer the Lord’s call. Behind the scenes, the faithful foster-father of Jesus has never let me down. He sets everything up with a grace and efficiency that is beautiful to behold. His answers come in sudden and unexpected ways, and his solutions are always better than I had looked for.
As St. Joseph led the donkey that held Mary and Jesus on its back, guiding its steps with love and patience, so he is leading me, and so he wishes to lead you as well.
At first, I thought I would run this business from a physical location - some place near me wherein I could gather with all the new and wonderful friends and creators I was meeting. I wanted to host dinners, and together, my brother and I did host a few events. Those were amazing nights, and I hope to host more like them as time goes on. But St. Joseph had other plans for me...
Rather abruptly, some things happened in life that left me more or less unmoored. To my surprise, I was suddenly floating free from any responsibilities or obligations, except that of this new mission that was insistently growing stronger and stronger on my heart.
There is a need, here and now, for faithful Catholics to rise up. Rise up, and invest in their talents! If we don’t, who will?
We, who as Catholics are blessed with the fullness of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the graces of the Sacraments, have a unique ability to bring renewed life back into our dying world.
It is this mission that is prompting me to follow St. Joseph deeper into the desert. I don’t know where my journey will end, but I know it will be fruitful along the way. At each stage in the journey, I reach out and pray to him, and like a good father, he answers my prayer.
Will you join me on this mission? Is your heart burning within you to bring renewal to our Church, communities, and world?
In this journey of stepping out in faith, I am asking for your help.
